In a historic moment for telecoms in Germany, 1&1 launched its cutting-edge 5G Open RAN mobile network on December 8th, marking a significant leap forward in the nation's digital landscape. The much-anticipated launch event, which celebrated 1&1’s launch as Germany’s newest mobile carrier, unfolded at Montabaur, home to the 1&1 headquarters, drawing a varied audience from the realms of politics and business.
The event – held in 1&1’s brand new building, which hosts a cantina, board member offices and multiple event spaces – was attended by luminaries such as Ralph Dommermuth, 1&1 AG's CEO; Mickey Mikitani, Chairman and CEO of Rakuten Group; Daniela Schmitt, Minister for Economic Affairs, Transport, Agriculture, and Viticulture of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate; and Dr. Volker Wissing, Federal Minister for Digital Affairs and Transport. Shinichi Asazuma, Consul General of Japan in Frankfurt also joined the gathering, creating a dynamic convergence of key figures shaping the future of technology, connectivity and Japanese-German relations.
