"On behalf of Rakuten Symphony, I applaud this week's signing of the CHIPS and Science Act into law. This legislation is an important and necessary step for realizing a secure and reliable supply chain that supports the future of telecoms. The Act will provide funding that is critical to the manufacturing of silicon, including research and development for Open RAN technologies. President Biden and former Prime Minister Suga of Japan pledged in 2021 to work jointly on the development of 5G technology, and this year pledged to promote open telecommunications standards for the rollout of 5G with Prime Minister Kishida.
The funding included in the CHIPS and Science Act further solidifies President Biden’s commitment to leading the way in 5G. I commend President Biden and Secretary Raimondo, as well as Sens. Schumer and Young, for their leadership on this important bipartisan legislation."
