Rakuten Maritime to Host Inaugural “Maritime AI & Tech Summit 2026” in Busan

October 2, 2026
  • ‍Industry leaders convene under the theme “Navigating a Safe Path to the Future of Maritime” to explore practical approaches to smart and secure shipping

SEOUL and TOKYO, October 2, 2026 - Rakuten Symphony, Inc. today announced that its maritime cybersecurity solution and service, Rakuten Maritime, will host the Maritime AI & Tech Summit 2026 (MATS 2026) on October 28 at Hyatt Place Busan Yeonsan. The conference will gather senior executives, shipowners, shipbuilders, classification societies and security researchers from the maritime industry, to advance digital transformation and operational security across the vessel lifecycle.

As shipowners face mandatory compliance under international frameworks, including IACS UR E26 and E27 standards, the industry must safeguard critical vessel systems while accelerating autonomous deployment. To address these mandates, the summit offers a targeted single-track agenda covering regulatory enforcement, maritime cybersecurity, autonomous operations and AI-driven threat mitigation.

Ryan Son, President of Rakuten Symphony's Internet Services Business Unit and Head of Rakuten Maritime, said, "As AI adoption expands across vessel operations, cybersecurity has become a direct measure of fleet readiness. Meeting mandatory frameworks like IACS UR E26 and E27 requires proactive, industry-wide execution. Under our theme, 'Navigating a Safe Path to the Future of Maritime,' we are bringing global leaders together in Busan to establish operational standards and chart a path where digital innovation and security advance together."

Hosted in the heart of Korea's maritime cluster immediately following the 2026 World Maritime Day Parallel Event*1, the summit features a single-track agenda of nine technical presentations and an executive panel discussion. The sessions are anchored by expert speakers from Korea's leading shipbuilding groups alongside global classification societies, cybersecurity vendors and academic researchers.

By convening key industry leaders through this event, Rakuten Maritime aims to provide an active platform to advance next-generation vessel security and accelerate safe digital transformation across the global maritime ecosystem.
